FAIRY WISHING STONES – DIY PAINTED ROCKS

by

Did you know that rock’s with a white or pinkish line around them are wishing stones? If you find one, you’re supposed to trace your finger around the line, close your eyes and make your wish. I’ve just learned about this myself, and since I have yet to find a wishing stone, I’m turning to the fairies and making fairy wishing stones. It’s an easy craft, but you will need a home printer.

SUPPLIES NEEDED

Let’s Make Fairy Wishing Stones

First, you’ll need some rocks. I collected my rocks for free from the landscaping around my house. I picked rocks around two to three inches with a flatter surface on at least one side. This way, the fairy image would fit properly.

Next, pick out some fun craft paint colors and paint your rocks. I put two coats of paint on each of my rocks. I used FolkArt Multi-Surface Satin in Hawaiian Surf, Bright Pink, Baby Pink, Aqua, Patina, Daffodil Yellow, Vivid Orange, Lime Green, and Light Blue.

While waiting for the paint to dry on the rocks, print some fairy images on tissue paper.

If you’re unsure how to print on tissue paper, I have a post, HOW TO PRINT ON TISSUE PAPER, with all the details. I also have a FREE printable for the fairies that can be found here. The printable is for personal use only.

If you’d like to find and use different fairies to print, that’s awesome too! I found the fairy print I used on Canva.

Once I printed the fairies onto tissue paper, I cut them out and applied them to the rocks with Mod Podge.

When the Mod Podge was dry, I used a small paintbrush to paint around the edges of the fairies to cover any noticeable tissue paper.

Lastly, after the touchup paint was applied and dried, I sprayed all the rocks with Lacquer Spray for a hard glossy finish. That’s it!

MAKE A WISH

At the back of our property, we have backyard trails created that we use to walk the ponies for daily exercise. I have one circular section of woods back there that I have plans to make into a fun little fairy forest, and these fairy wishing stones will be a perfect addition.

I used a scrap piece of wood for the sign. Painted the wood, printed the saying on tissue, mod podge the saying onto the wood, and lacquered it. Basically the same process as the wishing stones.

Cedar, my miniature horse, checking in with some of our fairies. I think she’s asking when the forest will start to bloom.

Don’t worry! I will be sharing the magical fairy additions I add to my forest as I create them in future posts, so make sure you scroll back up and save this post so that you remember to visit again or subscribe to the email list.

If you find a wishing stone, what will you wish for?

Oh, wait! That’s a secret.
