GARDEN GIRL WITH A GLITTER EYE PATCH
The artwork is mixed media on canvas, measuring 18″ x 24″ with a 1.5″ profile.
You’ll find a supplies used list towards the end of this post.
This garden girl is one of my favorite paintings! I adore how she turned out, giving a vibe of joy, peace, and happiness.
If I could paint one thing every day, it would be the hair on my garden girl paintings, which is layer after layer of different green colors brushed with single brush strokes.
The process is very relaxing, and you don’t have to think about it too hard because it always looks so pretty once the layers are complete.

MORE ON THE DETAILS
The idea in most of my Garden Girls is to blend in the night-to-day sky in the background.
In this painting, I was able to use the leaf vines in the floral headpiece to divide the two, giving the upper half of the painting gold stars while the bottom half has white dotted clouds.
I gave each of the clouds texture by adding puffy dots using FolkArt Dots Acrylic Paint, a new product in my craft room stash, and I dying to play with it.
Another area where I used the FolkArt Dots was along the yellow and green section of the rainbow.
I cut two bird shapes from scrap canvas pieces and painted them blue before adhering them to the panel.
Normally, I will paint butterflies on separate canvas pieces as well, but for this painting, I painted the butterfly directly on the canvas, giving it some dots and stripes with my paint markers and embroidery floss. The antenna is also sewn on is embroidery floss.
As for faux jewels, I’ve placed faux pearls in the center of each blue flower located in the floral headpiece, and individual faux jewels were lined along the forehead of the female, making the band of her glittery green eyepatch.
Why the eye patch?
Well, I like to think my Garden Girls are observers and in tune with nature and their surroundings. They see the beauty of nature differently, seeking out the simple things.
It kind of reminds me of the quote by Paul Klee, ” One eye sees, the other feels.”
You will find her under the GARDEN GIRLS category of my art collections.
