This painting was designed with some colorful cowgirl style in mind.

I had painted a similar painting in more neutral colors before this one, but I wanted to try it again with a little more sass.

Pictured below is the similar painting in neutral colors. This painting is happily living in a new home – SOLD.

This piece is titled Grit and Grace, and it is written in the heart located in the pony’s mane.

The heart is a cutout from a scrap piece of canvas that I finished with glitter and paint markers and adhered to the panel with glue and embroidery floss.

GRIT

determines that life challenges will neither defeat nor define us.

GRACE

gives kindness to ourselves and others even when it’s hard.

I used brown glitter as an eyeshadow for her left eye while using blue glitter for her right eye patch.

I also used faux jewels for the eyepatch band and a necklace.

Faux pearls were placed in the centers of each blue flower.

A small butterfly was hand-painted on a separate piece of scrap canvas. I then cut it out and adhered to the painting with archival glue and stitched a few areas of the wings and antennae with purple embroidery floss.

The feathers in the pony’s headdress were created with multiple colors and layers of acrylic paints, along with paint markers and glitter.

I also used a bird-shaped stencil for the bird floating in the background.
