HOME IS WHERE THE MEOW IS GUARDIAN OF THE KITTY CATS
I like to think this sweet-faced female image is a guardian who watches over all the kitty cats.
She represents the cat lovers’ conscience, nudging us to leave a small dish of food out to that stray that keeps coming around or leaving a warm shelter outdoors for a feral feline.
She’s there in our minds when it’s time to pick the purrfect furry companion, and she knows just the one.
Her job is to make sure all the kitties find a home.
” HOME IS WHERE THE MEOW IS “
This design is painted on a page in one of my art journals on a 9″ x 12″ sheet of mixed media paper.
You’ll find a supplies used list towards the end of this post.
Art journal pages can be a wonderful thing because they are a way to play with your ideas, and when you have a creative blank, you can page through and rediscover some ideas to possibly help create something new.
You can also replicate the same image onto a different page or canvas, like I’ve been able to do with this one.

MORE ON THE DETAILS
My favorite thing about this design is the personal style I was able to achieve on this sweet-faced kitty cat guardian, from the paw print veil to the glittery black cat mask.
I first painted the cat mask a deep black, with dark gray eye holes. It felt a little flat, so my brain told me to add some black glitter, which I did, and it was still so-so.
I kept feeling like something was not looking right, so I added the silver glitter into the cat mask eye holes, and that was exactly what the mask needed.
Fluorescent pink has been one of my favorite colors to play with lately, and it was a perfect color choice to brighten up her cheeks and smiling little lips.
I also used fluorescent pink in the flowers, which I first created by finger painting pink circles and then came in with a combination of fluorescent pink and white on a paintbrush.
I love my POSCA Paint Markers for adding detail, which I did use in some areas of this painting, but I also used black ink gel pen for extra fine lines.
You’ll see I used ink pen on the butterfly wings, and to divide the colored blue stripes in the background.
The ink pen was also used for outlining along the gold trim of the veil, and the black you see the roses and leaves are pen ink.
The painting has such an innocent, sweet face, and finishing it with HOME IS WHERE THE MEOW IS, written along the veil, was the finishing touch.
Original work from my art journal can be found under the ORIGINAL PAPER PAGES category of my art collections.
I’ve replicated and hand-painted this design onto a 4×4 mini canvas.
I also took the idea from my HOME IS WHERE THE MEOW IS, changed the colors and a few details, and have a new guardian of the kitty cats in PINK.
