On a lazy afternoon, I was spending some quality time with Mixie and Cedar, trying to create some DIY pony portraits of them.

Mixie, my miniature Shetland pony, kept poking her head out of the fence, thinking my paint supplies were a pile of delicious treats, and Cedarmy miniature horse, was watching me with her eyes in suspicion, wondering what the heck I was doing. They had no clue they were such wonderful models.

It was a well-spent afternoon at the barn that did not include any chores. Whoo Hoo!

Anyways, those pony portraits, the ones I created that one lazy afternoon, are the inspiration behind the pony paintings I paint now.

I became obsessed with painting them. I would collect old pieces of plywood I found laying around the hobby farm to practice my pony painting skills.

Unicorn Paintings

These paintings looked nothing like my ponies, they were more whimsical, but the story and inspiration of how my ponies helped me create them is still there.

I adore them ALL! And I love that they make others smile now too.

Of course, these colorful practice paintings on old plywood could not go to waste, so they became the perfect decor in my pony barn.

I create ponies on both canvas and wood panels, and even though I use a similar silhouette to create them, each piece ends up with its very own personality, just like a real pony.

Who would have guessed an afternoon painting my ponies would have turned into SO MUCH creativity!
