Owl Paining “Owl Watch Over You”
Owls often don’t get spotted here on the hobby farm, but every great once in a while, when I head out for late evening chores, especially in the late summer, I’ll hear a hoot or a shriek off in the distance.
The sound can be a little chilling, but the mysteriousness of the owl is one of my favorite things about them.
Whether it’s the way they glide over the night sky in silence or how quietly they observe their surroundings by spinning their heads in either direction.
Although some myths say the owl brings a dark side, I believe the owl is here to guide us with protection and wisdom during dark hours.
And that, I suppose, is how “OWL WATCH OVER YOU” came to life.
MORE ON THE DETAILS
The artwork is mixed media on canvas, measuring 30″ x 40″ with a 1.5″ profile.
You’ll find a supplies used list towards the end of this post.
Each feather of the wing has been detailed with paint pen markers, and here and there, dabs of glitter on the tip’s feathers have been sewn onto the canvas with embroidery floss.
As for the owl’s face, buttons added a little folk art whimsy for the owl’s eyes, and embroidery floss was again used for coloring and texture.
When finishing off the completion of the owl’s body, I couldn’t help but add a pink heart in the chest.
A little nest of three glittery eggs rests in a nest hidden in the flower bouquet, a mix-and-match combination of embroidery floss and paint colors.
Whenever I add blue eggs to any of my paintings, they always remind me of my now adult baby boys.
Smaller butterflies were created on separate pieces of canvas and added to the painting with adhesive, but the larger butterflies you’ll find were painted right onto the canvas.
A few faux pearls were used in the centers of some flowers, and the piece is bursting with bright color.
You will find her under the OTHER category of my art collections.
