CLEAN HOUSE: MY PET SAFE CLEANING SUPPLY LIST

by

Living on a hobby farm and having pets in the house means keeping up with cleaning and deodorizing.

I try not to use many chemicals, so my daily cleaning usually comes from baking soda and vinegar.

I do however have a big cleaning day once and sometimes twice a week where I scrub bathrooms, floors, and countertops in every room with harder chemicals.

My husband is kind of OCD about cleaning. He swears it’s an illness, and I think he might be right.

Baking Soda is an awesome natural deodorizer for pet owners.

You can freshen upholstery, rugs, and carpets by sprinkling them with baking soda and letting the baking soda sit for at least thirty minutes to absorb the odors. You can then use a vacuum to suck it all up.

Distilled White Vinegar is another common household item I use daily for cleaning up after pets in my home. White vinegar is a safe disinfectant, cleaner, and deodorizer.

I keep an equal part solution of mixed distilled white vinegar and water
in a spray bottle so I can spray down upholstered furniture, countertops, windows, and hardwood floors.

I also use white distilled vinegar to clean water and food dishes, and even my ponies are water troughs outdoors.

Hydrogen Peroxide is another good item for fighting through odor. You do have to be careful because it can bleach out your furniture, fabrics, or carpets, depending on the material and dyes.

I use it on my brown couches and have never had an issue.

I learned how amazing Hydrogen Peroxide was while working in a veterinary hospital.

MAKE SURE YOU TRY A SMALL AREA FIRST, AND NEVER MIX IT WITH VINEGAR!

NATURE’S MIRACLE CAT

NATURE’S MIRACLE DOG

NATURE’S MIRACLE offers separate formulas for dogs and cats.

This is a product to use on those bigger cleaning days and a good go-to when washing cat litter areas.

Dr. Bronner’s is good for eliminating set-in pet odors on bedding and fabrics.

It’s pet-safe and has tons of uses outside the laundry room.

You can use this to bathe your animals as well, and I’m talking everything from cats, and dogs to chickens.

BONA: is a water-based formula for that works for those hardwood floors your pets spend a lot of time walking on.

Angry Orange is an Enzyme cleaner. An Enzyme cleaner is what you want when working with hard cat urine smells.

It is a popular product and TOP-SELLER, but cats HATE the citrus smell in this stuff, and you shouldn’t use it to clean their toys, bedding, or litter boxes.

If they’ve made a stain in your home where you don’t want them to mark again, this can help, and that is when and where I use it.

BISSELL CLEANVIEW SWIVEL PET UPRIGHT BAGLESS VACUUM

Any vacuum will do as long as you’re using it. I am so surprised at how much cat hair I vacuum EVERY SINGLE DAY.

We don’t have any carpeted rooms. We have hardwood floors and rugs, so having a vacuum I can safely use on the hardwood is my pick.

Do I have a robot?

No, and one of my girlfriends keeps trying to convince me that I’ll SAVE SO MUCH TIME owning one.

Maybe someday I’ll jump on that, but I really don’t mind pulling out my vacuum.

ORENTO H13 AIR PURIFIER

Having at least one air purifier in your home for your pets can help reduce odors and collect some excess hair floating around, which is also perfect if anyone in your household has some allergies. We have two and the ORENTO H13 AIR PURIFIER is my top pick.

SWIFFER CLEANER – WITHOUT THE WET PADS: Ok, this one is really just a tip.

Here’s the deal with this one.

I don’t use the Swiffer wet cleaning pads. I just use the mop cleaner.

I use old rags and place them in the holes. Then I can either use vinegar and water or hardwood cleaners like BONA mentioned above.

BISSELL Little Green Multi-Purpose Portable Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner

This machine has been a go-to for pet owners for some time. Plus, EVERY PURCHASE SAVES PETS. BISSELL proudly supports the BISSELL PET FOUNDATION and its mission to help save homeless pets.

You should allow anything you are cleaning to dry 100% before allowing your pet back in the area.

Thankfully, as an owner of seven indoor cats, I’m able to keep my house NOT smelling like a pet store.

On big cleaning days, I have a kitty cat playroom where I can lock my cats while I clean.

Creating that space was one of the BEST ideas I’ve ever had.

It’s also great because on big cleaning days, I like to open the windows and air out while I clean, and I know no one can escape.

Wishing you the best of luck to you on your pet-cleaning adventures.

I know it can be a tough one.
